Atomu Watanabe

Bio

Atomu is a Member of the Australian PGA (Advanced in Coaching) & has been following in the footsteps of his coach Grant Field. He is leading the way by creating pathways from the raw beginners to the elite golfers and this wouldn’t be possible without a supportive club like Pelican Waters Golf Club.

He started playing the game at the age of 11 at Twin Waters Golf Club under the guidance of Di Pavich. Atomu quickly discovered the bug and would commonly play a quick 9 hole with his dad before school. He has represented Twin Waters Golf Club, Horton Park, Nambour and Pelican Waters Golf Club in Pennant teams and tournaments over the world.

Atomu has attempted Australian, Asian and Canadian Qualifying schools however chose the Australian PGA trainee program to turn Professional. He became a full member of the Australian PGA in 2014 and from here Atomu took off to Charlotte NC to play in the E Golf tour. Atomu had mix success over in America making 3 cuts out of the 9 events he played. He also attempted to qualify for the Web.com and the US open pre qualifier with no success.

He returned home after 6 months to Pelican Waters Golf Club where his long time coach Grant Field is. From here Atomu's passion for the game went from playing to helping many golfers find their true potential. He quickly identified golf isn't just a game about low scores, it's about to social outings, exercise and that one great shot that drags us in.

Atomu is now focusing on providing and growing his family in Aroona which is 15min away from Pelican Waters Golf Club.  He has two boys Boston was born 29th Oct 2016 and Phoenix born 27th July 2019.

The PGA of Australia has also used Atomu as a Mentor for the up and coming Trainees over the last few years. Our whole family has been a part of Atomu’s golf development programs for the past couple of years.  He has a unique ability to effectively coach the tiny tots right through to adults which allows us to progress at our own pace – some way faster than others!  Atomu’s professional coaching & guidance has been instrumental in our kids golf development.  Our 5 year old daughter is a big fan of Atomu’s My Golf Program and our 10 year old son has come through all of Atomu’s junior developing programs – he now competes in 18 hole junior Pennants & Junior Golf Queensland events with a strong passion for the game of golf. Thanks Atomu!”
